"Ladies in Retirement" is a play by Edward Percy and Reginald Denham, first performed in 1939, although it takes place in 1885. This play, which is based on a true murder, is a psychological thriller described as a gothic melodrama.
Throughout the story, Leonora Fiske, a retired showgirl, is accompanied by Ellen Creed, her companion, who has a great deal of love for her simple-minded sisters, Emily and Louisa. Despite Ellen's invitation for her sisters to visit, Leonora wants them to leave, so Ellen commits a desperate act to defend them.
